ABOUT
EST. 2014
Welcome!
My name is Zahra, and together with my partner Jarrad we began sleddog sports in 2012 and 2014. Initially, we were just having fun with our first pet huskies and malamutes as a social hobby.
We’ve owned and trained many different dogs between us including a number of rescues for AMRAA & Arctic Breed Rescue. From Siberians and Alaskan Malamutes, to Alaskan Huskies, German Shorthaired Pointers, Hungarian Vizslas, and of course the Eurohounds. Our passion has evolved into a lifestyle.
Originating in Cooranbong NSW, I trained in the Watagan State Forest and Southern Highlands whilst competing around the country on both dryland and snow. Since moving to South Australia in 2017, I am spoilt for choice with climate and trail options around Mount Crawford and Kuitpo Forests. My favourite category would have to be 2 Dog Scooter. Besides our personal program, I have enjoyed serving on committees for SHCNSW, ASSA, and Wild Dog to host races, educate, and advertise sled dog sports here.
Jarrad has served as President for both SA clubs, SASDC and Wild Dog. He has raced dryland locally in South Australia and travelled to Victoria a number times, his favourite categories are Bikejoring and 1 Dog Scooter.
We have both been lucky enough to represent Australia Internationally on separate occasions at the 2015 IFSS World Championships (Bristol, Canada) and 2023 IFSS World Championships (Olvega, Spain). As Australians we are unable to take our own dogs to race overseas due to the quarantine requirements and costs flying back home, but the international community is very generous in allowing us to run with their dogs. Jarrad ran DS1 with a Eurohound named Mopus, kindly loaned by Mark and Murielle Ovenden. He placed 17th in a field of 30 competitors in Canada. I ran DS1 with a Greyster named Durga, generously loaned by Sandra Lallier and Daniel Lusignan. I placed 12th in a field of 24 competitors in Spain.
We have two sons who enjoy helping with watering, feeding, and walking the dogs at races. We are passionate about youth and beginner programs, they are the future of the sport.
